Three commissioners, elected at large by the voters of Silverdale Port District, serve six-year terms and establish Port policy.
Meet the CommissionersHarry Knapp
Harry Knapp was first elected to the Port Commission in 1975. He was re-elected in 1981, 1987, 1993, 1999 and 2005. He served as Commission president in 1979, 1982, and from 1989 to the present. During 30 years as Silverdale Port Commissioner, Harry Knapp has applied his lifetime experience in construction to oversee real accomplishments for our area: including a fine public dock, all season boat launch, transient moorage with security, power, water, and pump-out facilities. This past year he has supervised construction of significant improvements to the Port facilities, including expansion of boat launch parking, dredging for boat launching at all tides, a new public restroom at the launch ramp, and new restrooms at the Silverdale Waterfront Park with showers and a laundry facility for boaters. Lawrence Greaves was appointed to the Port Commission in April of 2000 and elected in November of 2001. Lawrence brings a career's worth of engineering experience to his position with the Port. His Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Washington and 20 years experience in the petroleum industry with another 20 years as a civilian engineer for the Department of the Navy all contribute toward the maintenance and development of the Port. His family's decades-long history of involvement in Silverdale give him a deep understanding of the importance of preserving the "look and feel" of Old Town Silverdale when dealing with the business of the Port. Ed Schofield was appointed to the Port Commission in April of 2007. Ed, a life long resident of the area brings with him years of Project management experience to his position with the Port. Degrees in Business Administration from the University of Washington and Computer Science from Western Washington University combined with 20 years experience in the private sector and Department of the Navy will all contribute to the maintenance and development of the Port facilities.
